Can Chiropractic Care Help Foot Pain?

Jun 2, 2020 | Chiropractic, Foot

YES! Most people don’t think about chiropractic care when it comes to foot pain… but problems such as bunions, heel spurs, and plantar fasciitis all respond very well to chiropractic care – even when surgery has been recommended by another health professional.

Bunions, heel spurs and plantar fasciitis typically begin with stiff joints and weak muscles in the foot, ankle, leg – and the hip. Everything is connected and even foot problems need to be treated by looking at the whole person, not just the painful area. Oftentimes weakness in the glutes will cause fallen arches and eventually heel spurs or plantar fasciitis in the foot.

Muscle weakness and stiff joints create stress in the foot – the tendons and ligaments then become frayed and irritated (plantar fasciitis) or they pull too hard on the heel and form excess bone (heel spurs). Abnormal stress can also cause the bones in the foot to become ugly and displaced (bunions).

Gentle chiropractic mobilizations are used to correct joint stiffness in the foot. Frayed and irritated tendons and fascia are soothed using special deep tissue massage techniques. Finally, home exercises are given to strengthen the muscles in your feet and hips. This special combination of therapies creates a stronger foot and relief from bunions, heel spurs, and plantar fasciitis.

Furthermore, improving the biomechanics of your feet reduces the risk of injury and degeneration in other parts of your body – and makes running and athletic performance more efficient.
