Relief From Headaches

Jun 16, 2020 | Chiropractic, Headache, Pain

Headaches are one of the most common reasons that people visit a chiropractor and most patients experience significant relief within the first week or two of treatment. Rather than simply covering up the pain with medication, chiropractic provides lasting relief because it addresses the cause of the headache.

Headaches have many triggers including certain foods, noise or light, and stress – but the most common cause is muscle tension in the neck.

Computers may make our lives easier, but they put a huge strain on our necks because of the long hours spent in a fixed posture. Watching TV, texting on our phones, driving, and poor sleeping posture are other common causes of muscle tension in the neck. When the neck muscles become tight, they clamp down on the vertebrae in the neck, causing them to become stuck – which irritates the surrounding nerves and triggers a headache.

Proper treatment for headaches must address all three of these issues – the muscle tension, restricted spinal joints, and irritated nerves. Chiropractic care does exactly this.

With my patients, I use a unique blend of deep tissue massage to relax tight muscles, gentle chiropractic care to release the stuck spinal joints, and home exercises to strengthen the neck and prevent reoccurence. Most of my patients go from 3-4 headaches per week to less than one each month.

Headaches are a sign that something is wrong – tension in the neck can lead to more significant problems down the line. If you are experiencing more than two or three headaches per month, get evaluated by a chiropractor. You don’t have to live with that pain!
